Montblanc's Masters of Art Homage to Vincent van Gogh pays tribute to the legendary artist who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in western art.
The pen itself emphasises the artist's time in Arles with the design reflecting the Provencal wheat fields and one of van Gogh's most famous paintings, "Sunflowers". 1888 is engraved the barrel - next to van Gogh's signature in bright orange - commemorating the year he moved to Arles.
The barrel itself is designed with shades of yellow and orange which reflect the sun-drenched landscapes of southern France while the nib was inspired by Vincent's series of five sunflower paintings and is made from 18-carat gold with a rhodium trim.
The platinum coated clip is inspired by his palette knife while his sweeping brushwork is immortalised in the yellow lacquer on the cap top. Van Gogh also had a fondness for pipe smoking which he referenced in many of his self-portraits; this is captured on the details of the clip with the part being shaped like a pipe's bowl and filled with yellow precious resin.
Finally, paying homage to Vincent's fascination with traditional Japanese woodblock prints, the overall shape of the pen is inspired by a Japanese woodcutting knife with the cap being made from wood.
