Opus 88

A range of eyedropper-filled fountain pens, much loved by fountain pen geeks. The addition of a screw-down valve to seal the ink in the barrel, away from the nib and feed, makes these safer to carry and use than most eyedropper-filled fountain pens. The use of beautifully bright and crystal-clear translucent materials makes them truly beautiful pens.

Opus 88 FAQ

What’s the history of Opus 88?

Opus 88 was founded by Michael Hsu in 1988 (hence that bit of the name). They are based in Taipei, Taiwan. They started manufacturing fountain pens for other companies but used all that experience to branch out into their own fountain pens. And we’re glad that they did.

What makes Opus 88 different?

Opus 88 makes fountain pens for fountain pen fans. They are beautifully designed and are unique enough that not having one would be a glaring omission in any fountain pen collection. Their pens also tend to use the eyedropper filling system, which is something frequent fountain pen users often prefer.

Recommended Opus 88 products

The Demonstrator range is Opus 88’s most popular. They do make the classic clear demonstrator, but you can also get them in a range of interesting colours and designs so you can have a striking pen, but also see what’s going on inside.

The Opus 88 Koloro range is beautifully designed. They use an eyedropper filling system, meaning you use an eyedropper (or syringe if you prefer) to get ink from the bottle to the pen barrel. They also have a valve that seals off the ink above the nib. Why? Well, the main benefit is that it makes it safer to carry the pen about without leaks. It also removes a potential issue with the eyedropper filling system, where the air in the barrel can push ink through the feed onto the page when your hand heats it up. Opus 88 really does put a lot of thought into their pens.
