Toyo Steel

A Japanese toolbox manufacturer might not sound like the most obvious brand for Cult Pens to stock. And, to be fair, it isn’t. But the thing is, we saw them at a show, and they were just so nice. So well made. So beautiful, in a very utilitarian way. And we couldn’t resist. After all, they’re boxes. And you can put pens in boxes.

The larger boxes have some organisation inside, which can help divide things up. With the smaller boxes, there isn’t much room to organise things inside, but they stack nicely so you can keep things organised with multiple boxes.

Beautifully crafted Japanese cases like these will, of course, never be the cheapest option for storing your stuff. But they fit very well into the ‘buy for life’ ethos. And if you’re looking for some really solid, well-made storage solutions, these could be just what you’re looking for, and you could be using them for the rest of your life.

Toyo Steel FAQ

What’s the history of Toyo Steel?

Toyo Steel is a Japanese company from the historic industrial city of Osaka, founded in 1969. They were the first company in the world to create a toolbox from a single sheet of steel, meaning no seams, which helped create their simple but durable products.

What makes Toyo Steel different?

Toyo Steel makes products that last. It’s a very simple design that they have used to make toolboxes in all sizes. Luckily for us here at Cult Pens, some of them are absolutely perfect for artists and stationery enthusiasts.

If you are looking for a classic-looking handled toolbox, then Toyo’s classic Camber-Top Toolbox fits the bill. For something a bit more complicated, with lots of little compartments perfect for any calligraphers, is the Toyo Steel Cantilever Toolbox ST-350.

The perfect size for your desk might be the satisfyingly stackable Trunk Shape Toolbox. It’s not the classic toolbox style, but they are very convenient to use if you have a lot of stuff.
