Drafting Pencils

What's a drafting pencil then? Easy - a drafting pencil is a mechanical pencil with a long slim lead sleeve. This has two purposes - it keep sthe nose of the pencil out of the way so you can see what you're doing in fine details more easily; and it runs consistently and predictably along the straightedges of rulers, templates, etc. Drafting pencils normally come in a range of ISO sizes - 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm and 0.9mm. They're usually slim, robust, and have a certain technical je ne sais quoi - as if they've just finished designing a new Aston Martin, and are now idly considering the lines of the next Apple iWotsit. Knurled grips, lead grade indicators, removable clips and useless erasers are also generally signifiers that you've got a drafting pencil on your hands.
