Demonstrator fountain pens started life because the makers of the pens wanted to show off their inner workings. They would cut away the casing to be able to give a clear view and help educate people on how they worked. Clearly people liked seeing inside their pens so instead of pens with holes in them, pen makers started using transparent materials and offering them for sale to the general public. So now anyone can have an interesting-looking transparent pen, with the added bonus of not just being able to see how much ink you have left, but getting the full benefit of its colour too!
A lot of the top fountain pen brands have demonstrator designs, but you will find Opus 88’s versions to be particularly popular.
