Esterbrook is one of the greatest names in American pen history. Founded in 1858, by their peak they were making 216 million pens a year. Unfortunately, as the market changed, Esterbrook went out of business in 1971. Now they're back, though, with the name brought back and the designs reinvented by Kenro Industries, who have plenty of experience of bringing back or continuing famous pen brands.
The Estie is inspired by Esterbrook designs from the 1930s, using some beautifully machined acrylics - the black is basic and understated, while the more colourful patterns are bright and eye-catching.
The Nouveau Bleu celebrates the innovation of the artist Alphonse Mucha and nouveau style art. Mucha's colour pallete involved rich, warm, pastel tones and from this emerged a eau de nil blue that was used in his paintings. This pen is inspired by these tones and blends then into a material that reflects the celluloid of pen making past.
Blue acrylic barrel with a highly polished finish and gold trim.
149mm long capped, 130mm uncapped, 172mm posted. Weighs 24g. Supplied in a gift box with a converter for use with bottled ink.
An added option with this pen is a 'Custom Gena' nib created especially for Esterbrook by Gena Salorino. This is a medium stub based on the vintage Esterbrook 9314M nib. It's smooth and friendly enough for everyday use, not too big, and gives your writing some flair. Following on from the 'Custom Gena' nib, is the second custom nib sold by Esterbrook called the 'Scribe'. Handcrafted in New York by nib-maker Josh Lax. The Scribe nib is similar to an architect nib; it is ground into a wedge to give broad cross-strokes and narrow downstrokes. Both are special order only.
