This truly exquisite work of art from Visconti is the Alexander the Great fountain pen. The pen has a cylindrical shape with each end tapering into sections that will remind you of Green columns. The barrel and the cap cap feature the map of Alexander the Great's empire which was created with the scrimshaw technique and coloured. All fittings are made from aged bronze and feature typical Greek decorations.
On the central ring, you'll fine "Alexander the Great" inscribed to it and on the bronze band of the shaft, there is a gilded silver plate with a depiction of Alexander's face. The clip pays homage to the Macedonian phalanx and is shaped like a spear and displays a gilded silver shield resembling the sun, Alexander's family crest.
The body itself is oversized, made from a mixture of resin and bronze and houses Visconti's High Vacuum Power Filler - from the top of the barrel unscrew the blind cap and withdraw the plunger; submerge the nib fully into the ink; press the plunger back down and count to ten; remove from the ink and screw the blind cap back down; blot the nib with tissue to remove excess ink.
Each pen is supplied with an intricate, luxurious desk set depicting Alexander on Bucephalus, his famous war horse. It is said Alexander gained his relentless tenacity from taming the horse which in turn lead to the acquisition of his enormous empire.
