These very special Pelikan pens are the ever-reliable piston-filled Souveran pens, made in Germany, but then shipped to Japan to be hand-painted using traditional Maki-e techniques, with the painting built up from layers of coloured lacquers. This pen is inspired by the phoenix, a legendary creature that appears throughout Chinese mythology.
The phoenix symbolises many things, including wisdom, beauty, goodness, prosperity and success. In some Chinese legends, the phoenix even represents the entire universe, such is its importance. The artwork on the barrel depicts an image of the mythical bird soaring through the sky. The barrel is sprinkled with gold powder while the phoenix itself is outlined in gold with a variety of greens and blues making up its body. The cap features golden clouds on a black background with gold powder dotted through. Gold accents combine well with the black and gold barrel.
Every pen comes with the Pelikan logo on the crown as well as its own limited edition number and the signature of the artist drawn by hand.
Fitted with an 18-carat two-tone medium gold nib and presented in a traditional Japanese pen box made of paulownia wood.
Limited to just 123 pieces worldwide.
Orders placed before 3pm Monday to Friday will normally be sent out the same day.
