A simple design, with some Italian flair, the Spica features an interesting variety of shapes and textures.
Towards the tip, it's simple tubular metal, with a conical section where the lead emerges. This part is polished and shiny for the Chrome and Black versions, and has a subtle brushed finish on the Brass. The upper barrel is hexagonal, and has a brushed finish. A more coarse brushing effect which, perhaps unexpectedly, gives a more silky feel than brushed metal usually has. Two sides of the hexagon are engraved with 'LOCLEN' and 'ITALY'.
The twist-action knob for extending the lead emerges from a polished dome, above the clip. The matching metal clip is simple, but effective. At the very top, the knob to feed lead is a shiny polished metal ball. Black gunmetal finish.
Weighs 48g. 121mm long (or short!), 9mm wide.
