What’s the history of Visconti?
Visconti was founded in 1988 by fountain pen enthusiasts, Dante del Vecchio and Luigi Poli, in Florence, Italy, where they are still headquartered. In a 15th-century villa, no less.
What makes Visconti different?
If you have been to Florence, it would be hard to imagine a company there making basic, functional pens. So it makes sense that Visconti create innovative and beautiful pens. For example, in the early years of Visconti, they used celluloid to make pens, a material that had fallen out of fashion due to how difficult it was to work with. However, old celluloid pens were still sought after by collectors, so Visconti brought them back.
Recommended Visconti products
The Visconti Homo Sapiens range of luxury pens has a lot of interesting entries. The original has a barrel made from reformed volcanic lava from Mt. Etna in Sicily. The Homo Sapiens Carbon Moiré pens are inspired by Italian supercars. While the Homo Sapiens Arizona Sunset got its brown and orange swirling effect from watching desert sunsets.
The Visconti Van Gogh range features pens that have resin mixes using the colours and swirls found in Van Gogh's most celebrated paintings, like ‘Starry Night’ and ‘Cafe Terrace.’
