The design of this stunning pen from Platinum is based on the story of Fudo Myo-o, one of the Five Great Kings in Japanese mythology, and his sword, Kurikara-ken. Legend has it that Fudo Myo-o turned himself into a huge sword in order to defeat a devil. When the devil changed himself into the same sword, Fudo Myo-o then turned himself into a dragon, Kurikara Ryu-o, and swallowed the devil-sword.
The epic battle is depicted in the Kurikara-ken fountain pen using the taka maki-e technique, in which charcoal powder is applied several times to raise the matte black urushi lacquer that is applied to the ebonite body. The facial expressions are picked out using lustrous black roiro urushi lacquer. The devil-sword is highlighted through the taka maki-e technique, but this time using silver powders.
18k gold nib finished in rare ruthenium. The clip and ring are also finished in matte ruthenium.
