Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen pays tribute to one of the most loved authors in English literary history, whose works have rarely been out of print. Her novels, insightful explorations into the landed gentry of the late 18th century, include such treasures as Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion, and have also inspired countless costume dramas.
The resin barrel of the pen - a pale sandy grey - is modelled on a Greek doric column, a common feature in the architecture of the Regency period of which she wrote, and is engraved with Austen's signature.
The substantial, sober blue-grey cap reflects the sort of morning coat commonly worn by such characters as Mr Darcy, and the cap ring is inscribed with XLIII, a reference to the chapter in Pride and Prejudice in which Elizabeth Bennet sees Mr Darcy's estate for the first time. The cap end is inscribed with 'by a lady', which was what the first edition of Sense and Sensibility stated on the title page, instead of Austen's name. The gold-plated pocket clip is an intricate representation of the strap of a reticule, a small bag carried by gentlewomen of the period, as the fashion of the day did not allow for pockets!
The profile of the pen as a whole resembles that of a sealing wax stamp; Austen was thought to have written over 3,000 private letters, each stamped with her private seal.
This beautiful pen is supplied with a liquid ink refill and an information booklet in a specially-designed book-themed box.
