Named after one of the brightest things in the universe: a quasar. Quasars are galactic centres that form when super massive black holes 'ingest' large volumes of gas and dust. When the inflow reaches a certain level, a quasar is formed. This swirling cosmic material generates immense friction which emits electromagnetic radiation in the jets which can be a trillion times brighter than the sun and even outshine entire galaxies containing billions of stars!
