We love mechanical pencils here at Cult Pens, so when we had the chance to design our own we jumped at it.
We put our heads together to decide what features a mechanical pencil really needs and what other features would be really neat to have:
- A mechanical pencil should be available in more than one lead size - 0.5mm and 0.7mm lead sizes are the most widely used.
- It should be made of metal - a pencil needs to last and a strong metal construction is the best thing to use to make that happen.
- It should be reasonably pocket-safe - you don't want it to be stabbing its way through pockets do you?
- It should have a nice strong metal pocket clip.
- It should have a replaceable eraser.
- It should be as easy to maintain as possible.
- If possible, there should be a nicely textured knurled grip, properly machined so that it’s nice to hold.
- If possible, a nice reliable double-knock mechanism would be nice. This is the most convenient way of making it both pocket-safe and for protecting the lead pipe when not in use. Press the top button once to extend the writing tip, further presses advance the lead. The button on the side retracts the tip again.
- Lastly, it should be manufactured by experts.
Obviously, with a list as exhaustive as this you'd be forgiven for assuming we'd have to sacrifice one or two features at least to be able to get our cult pencil. You'd be wrong, but we'd forgive you anyway; we're nice like that.
We were privileged to work with a Japanese manufacturer who makes many well-known mechanical pencil models for several famous brands. They were able to turn our back-of-an-envelope scribbles into some great prototypes. A little polish here and there, an entirely undemocratic process for deciding on a product name and the Cult Pencil was born. We think it's great, as we should - we did make it after all.

International
International deliveries vary in cost, so you'll need to add the items you want to your basket, and enter the checkout to see the options for delivery. Prices and payment methods will reflect your country, and many countries have all taxes and duties included to make things easier and more predictable.

For all orders outside the UK, heavy orders may cost more to send, but the shipping cost will be displayed in the checkout before you commit.
