Pelikan Souveran

One of the best luxury pen ranges available, the Pelikan Souverän has remained popular with fountain pen fans for many years. We think a lot of the appeal is that despite its good looks and styling, it always remains a workhorse pen, designed and built to be used, not to look good on a shelf. It wouldn’t be right to describe it as plain, but the design flourishes are all perfectly functional.

While the barrel can be plain black (diamond-ground for a perfect finish) if that’s what you prefer, the iconic Souverän look is the ‘Stresemann’ stripes, giving the pen a distinctive look without being too distracting. The cap finial features a small logo of baby pelicans in a nest - another small detail. And the whimsical clip is shaped like a pelican’s beak - but it’s subtle, just a clip until you notice the shape.

All this is put together with one of the most reliable piston-filling mechanisms around, and some really good quality gold nibs, to make some of the best fountain pens to actually use every day.
