Staedtler is an interesting company. Wholly-owned by the non-profit Staedtler Foundation, whose aim is the promotion of scientific research at German polytechnics and universities, it also finances cultural projects such as the reconstruction of the Frauenkirche in Dresden. Cool huh?
Staedtler has been producing writing instruments in a plant in Nuremburg since 1835, and on a smaller scale since 1662. Well-known in the UK for the Tradition and Noris series of pencils; Staedtler also produces such classics as Lumocolor pens; Lumograph pencils; the Mars series of technical drawing equipment and the ergonomic Triplus range. Recently launched, the Staedtler Premium range brings Staedtler's designs to the luxury writing instrument market.
As a preferred Staedtler retailer, Cult Pens has the widest range of Staedtler items available in the UK.
What’s the history of Staedtler?
Staedtler was founded in 1835, in Nuremberg, where you can still find their headquarters. A company founded in 1835 is pretty impressive, but they can trace their heritage back to a pencil maker from 1662. They may have begun life as a pencil manufacturer but in the hundreds of years since they have branched out far beyond wood and lead.
What makes Staedtler different?
Staedtler is owned by the Staedtler Foundation. The focus of the foundation is promoting scientific research at universities like the Nuremberg Institute of Technology. It all goes over our heads a bit - we mostly just sell pens - but the things they help fund sound very impressive. Not bad for a company that started by making pencils.
Recommended Staedtler products
You can’t recommend a Staedtler product without a mention of the Noris pencil. Think of the pencils you used at school. Yes, it’s that one.
Staedtler Triplus is a range of writing implements that cover fineliners, highlighters, ballpoints, mechanical pencils and fountain pens. The thing they all have in common is their triangular shape, making them more comfortable to use for longer periods of time. They are ideal for kids, who are at school writing all day. In fact, Steadler has proof of that, having done tests with them at the Technical University of Munich.
