The first pen designed by Tom was inspired by his wife, Gemma, an avid calligrapher who used plastic mass-produced calligraphy pens which didn't reflect the quality of her work. He decided to take matters into his own hands. Combining his experience as a product designer and his background in furniture along with his experience working in a blacksmith's forge, he was able to manufacture a new pen for her.
