The AL-star is essentially a safari, but the ABS plastic has been replaced with a sleek, cool anodised aluminium barrel. The grip section is slightly translucent, unlike the opacity of the safari, but the strong wire pocket clip is the same. There are aluminium caps for the fountain pens and rollerballs, and the ballpoints - just like the safari - have rubber-gaitered push-buttons.
